How does counting work?

PushUp Arena counts your push-ups with your iPhone's camera, on your iPhone. Stand your iPhone sideways (landscape) on the floor or against a wall, 2–3 metres to your side, so it sees your whole body from the side. Get into the top push-up position and hold still for about a second; the app then counts each push-up.

Only full push-ups count: all the way down, arms straight at the top, and your body in one line. When a rep doesn't count, the app tells you why. The exact limits are in the app under Settings → About & rules.

In a competition set, a quick live check asks you to make a few random moves before counting starts, and once during the set the app asks you to hold at the top for 2 seconds. Do both, so your set can be verified. A competition set finishes by itself after 15 minutes of counting. Practice works the same way, without an account, and is never recorded or uploaded.

When does the day reset?

Every competition day runs on UTC and ends at 00:00 UTC, and the app counts down to it. That's 5 pm in California and 8 pm in New York in summer (4 pm and 7 pm in winter), and midnight in London in winter (1 am in summer).

The Best set board ranks everyone by their best verified single set of the day, and a new, empty board starts at the reset. A set counts for the day on which our server receives it, which is when you tap Submit to leaderboard, so submit before the reset. Yesterday's results shows the day before, and the Today, Week and All time boards rank everyone's verified totals.

Submit or Discard?

After a competition set, your count and the video are still only on your iPhone. Tap Submit to leaderboard to send your count and the video: the set counts once it's verified, and moderators may watch it. Tap Discard to delete the video from your iPhone and send nothing.

Submit within 2 hours of starting the set; the app shows the deadline. Sets waiting to be sent are on the Home screen under On this iPhone, and in Settings → Competition → Workouts waiting to be sent.

My set wasn't verified

A set waits for a moderator when one of the checks didn't pass, for example when the hold at the top was missed or the video looks interrupted. A set can't be verified if its video never reached us (within 48 hours) or you deleted the video. If a set is rejected, open it in your workout history and tap Appeal this result: a moderator looks at it again. You can appeal each decision once.

I forgot my password

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and enter your account's email address. We email you a link and a code, valid for 60 minutes: open the link on your iPhone, or enter the code in the app, then choose a new password. Changing your password signs you out on all your devices.

If you created your account with Sign in with Apple, it has no password: just sign in with Apple again. No email? Check your spam folder, wait a few minutes and ask again, or email us.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Settings → Your data → Delete account, and type DELETE to confirm. You're signed out everywhere, and your username, email address, country, profile photo, videos, friends and places on the leaderboards are removed. Your workout records are kept without your profile for 90 days, then deleted. Deleting the app doesn't delete your account. If you can't open the app, email us from your account's email address.

How do I report or block someone?

In the app, find the person on a leaderboard, in search or in your friend requests, and choose Report or Block.

For anything the app doesn't cover, email us.

How long are videos kept?

Competition sets are recorded only after you agree, as video without sound, and sent only when you tap Submit to leaderboard. Only our verification system and our moderators can watch them; other players never see them. A video is deleted 24 hours after its competition day ends (00:00 UTC), or, if a review or an appeal is still open then, as soon as it's settled.

You can delete all your videos sooner: Settings → Your data → Delete my workout videos. Sets that aren't verified yet then can't be verified, and a video an open appeal needs is kept until the appeal is decided. Practice is never recorded.

How do I get a copy of my data?

Email support@pushuparena.net from your account's email address to get a copy of your data, have it corrected, or make any other privacy request. If you use Sign in with Apple with a hidden email address, include your username. We answer within one month. The privacy policy explains your rights.

Are there prizes?

No. PushUp Arena competitions are free and just for fun. Apple is not a sponsor of, and is not involved in, PushUp Arena or its competitions. The terms of use have the rules.
